First female funeral director in Croydon firm's 138 years
THIS woman has made history – by becoming a Croydon firm's first female funeral director in its 138-year history.
Diane Pink has joined the ranks at Rowland Brothers, which has been helping bereaved families in the area since 1873.

But in all that time the company has never had a woman funeral director – until now.
Diane will be based at the firm's Warlingham office, but offering support to families across the borough.
She claims she was Croydon's first female funeral director when she started out 23 years ago.
Diane said: "In the early days it was difficult working as a woman in such a traditionally male dominated industry.
"However, I am very proud to be in the profession, as it is very rewarding, and as a woman offering 'the gentle touch' comes naturally.
"It is an honour to meet people as strangers during their time of need, but leave them as friends."

“My comment was in jest, I mean it's not the norm to see lady funeral directors that's all I meant. Didn't mean to offend the feminists amongst us (DianaFrance).”

“nicecityboy: Nurses deal with dying and consequently with dead people, usually performing the initial stages of preparation of the body. I can't see which of the next stages have to be performed by a man apart from carrying around a heavy box. In fact, discussing funeral plans would possibly be much easier for many bereaved people if a woman were in charge of the arrangements.
Are there any other jobs you think a woman can't do? Or do you just work in an office full of other clueless young men?”
