Fire fighters attend 'chemical' spill by Centrale shopping centre in Croydon

AN entrance to Centrale shopping centre in Croydon was cordoned off after a chemical spillage.

Fire fighters in breathing apparatus cleaned a section of pavement on Tamworth Road, West Croydon, following the incident at 7pm on Wednesday.

Police said the spillage involved an "unknown substance".

The bus lane and an area of pavement were closed off but trams continued to operate.

Witnesses reported the chemical had been thrown from a van which then sped off.

London Ambulance Service also attended the scene as a precaution.
