Carle and Moses inspire Palace

22:11 - 23-July-2008

Substitutes Victor Moses and Nick Carle inspired Palace to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Bodmin Town in the second leg of their Cornwall pre-season tour.

Trailing 1-0 at the break the pair helped Palace avoid an embarrassing defeat thanks to a second half brace from James Dayton and strikes from Carl Fletcher and Johannes Ertl.

The home took an unexpected lead completely against the run of play after Danny O'Hagan rose above Paddy McCarthy to plant a header past Darryl Flahavan from Huw Morgan's free-kick in the 22nd minute.

Palace huffed and puffed without any real joy until the introduction of Moses and Carle inspired Palace's comeback.

First Australia international Carle's corner kick was headed goalwards by McCarthy leaving Johannes Ertl to smash home a spectacular turn and volley from 10 yards to equalise for Palace two minutes  after the restart.

Moses looked breathtaking at times, but it was fellow teenage sensation Sean Scannell who helped set up Palace's second 18 minutes into the second period after nutmegging Sean Flynn by the left hand touchline before rolling a ball to the edge of the box which was dummied by Carle and smashed home by Carl Fletcher.

Palace doubled their lead on 63 minutes after substitute James Dayton smashed home an angled drive from 16 yards after another Carle lay-off and the Eagles academy graduate completed his brace three minutes later after curling home a low drive from 18 yards.
