Exclusive: Thomas wants starting role

00:00 - 24-July-2008

Palace new boy Simon Thomas insists he has not joined the Selhurst Park club just to sit in the reserves after completing a dream move from non-league Borehamwood Town.

The 24-year-old striker capped off a whirlwind week, which started with scoring on his Palace debut in the 4-3 win over Aldershot Town last Thursday, by putting pen to paper on a two year deal at SE25; his first ever professional contract.

And in his first interview since being snapped up by Neil Warnock, Thomas told the Advertiser that he refuses to be overawed by the golden opportunity he has been handed.

"I can't really believe the week that I've had - it's been amazing. It's a cliche, but it is a dream come true.

"I'm definitely going to push for it, I don't just want to sit on the sidelines and play reserve football, I want to push for the first team. It will take me a couple of months to get fully fit but once I am I want to be asking a few questions and knocking on the door of the first team.

"When I signed my deal I just couldn't stop smiling and I couldn't sleep the night before.

"I really can't put it into words."
