Croydon Nights: January Sales
However, unfortunately I didn't. And quite predictably I fell slightly short of my ideal by succumbing to the force of the vodka last weekend. And even though a good night was definitely had I did wake up to a rather sour taste (and it wasn't just the tequila…) I had let myself down.
So Sunday morning I began to gather a bit of perspective. I decided that although a completely sober existence may have been a little bit over-ambitious I would still try and drink less. A lot less. And for a long time. Maybe not for life but for a while, or for a few weeks at least…
And so far I have been doing OK. But I have to say, what seems to have made everything that extra bit harder is how cheap everything seems to be. Every day I am having to contend with emails with list upon list of tempting offers. Free shots, half price cocktails, buy one get one free spirits. The worst one of them all however has to be the pub opposite my office which is selling a glass of white wine for 99p.
99p! It's almost a travesty! It makes drinking soft drinks almost punishment. Not only am I having to sit with friends with a glass of coke while they are getting merry but in fact I am having to pay more for it. Where is the justice in that?
One thing I am almost certain of however is that as soon as I do fall off the wagon (which I can say with some degree of accuracy won't be too far ahead) the days of cheap drinking will be well and truly dead in the water. And I for one won't be raising a glass to that!
