Old Habits Die Hard

They say old habits die hard but I'm not sure if I agree.

I was quite randomly mulling this over the other week whilst looking at my mobile phone. For the past few years I have been what you may call 'behind the times'. Instead of having a mobile like most of the people I know – i.e. with internet access, an Mp3 player and Wifi (whatever that is) I instead have what is more commonly referred to as a 'brick'.

A lot of people tend to mock my archaic choice of phone but in my defence it is with good reasoning. You see, once upon a time, a few years ago I went through what I refer to as a 'phase'. And during this phase I managed to get through 16 phones. An exaggeration you may ask? Unfortunately not. Literally in two years I managed to lose/break/drop down the toilet, a grand total of 16 phones. Bad times.

So after the repeated stress of losing phone numbers, ordering sim cards and purchasing pricey new handsets I decided that my best bet was to always stick with something cheap. And as if by magic, it seemed that my 'phase' had come to an end. Hence, I still have the same phone that I had three years ago.

So, in acknowledgement of what I actually considered quite a significant achievement I was pondering over whether I was finally ready to take the plunge and buy myself a brand new classy upgrade? I weighed up the pros and cons and asked myself whether I was really ready to take on all the responsibilities that would come hand in hand with this new purchase? I decided to use the weekend to think it over

The Saturday had happened to be a sunny one so some friends and I decided to make the most of it by starting the afternoon with a few drinks in the beer garden. It was all very pleasant.

What was less pleasant however, was when I arrived home approximately 12 hours later one phone down. Surely this could not be possible? But apparently it was. Luckily for me, on this rare occasion I was later reunited with my phone but it led me to the conclusion that no, I was not ready to purchase a pricey new phone and, yes, old habits do annoyingly die hard.
