A child abuser has been spared prison despite being found guilty of a vile assault on an 11-year-old girl.
Billy Bryant, of Chertsey Crescent, New Addington, was handed a two year community order last Friday at Croydon Crown Court.
His name will also go on the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
In July, Bryant, 31, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a girl, now 18.
During the week long trial, the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was accused of being a "woman of the world" by Bryant's defence team.
The jury also heard from Bryant's mother that her son had a brain tumour when he was eleven and it has caused him difficulties ever since.
Bryant strenuously denied seven charges of abusing the girl from the age of eight, but told the jury that there had been one occasion when he was "playing around".
He insisted it had not been sexual, but the jury believed the girl's account and convicted him on that one count.
Roger Carne, defending, told the judge on Friday that Bryant deeply regretted the incident and it had "preyed on his mind for a long time".
On ordering Bryant to sign the Sex Offenders Register, Judge Simon Pratt warned him: "If you come back before me, I will have to put you inside."
INDECENT ATTACK: Billy Bryant, left, outside Croydon Magistrates Court during his trial for indecently assaulting a girl of 11.
