Excitement is building ahead of arguably Croydon's biggest fireworks display of the year.

The annual Croydon Charity Fireworks Display show put on by the Rotary Club of Croydon Jubilee and Croydon Round Table is in its 38th year.

Former president of the rotary club Phil Hosker said: "Everyone should come along because it's a fantastic display of a very high standard, it's safe and it supports local charities on behalf of the people of Croydon.

"For the small entrance price you also get to see a display a million times better than what you could do in your back garden for the same amount."

Funds raised in past years have supported the Parchmore Project community centre, in Thornton Heath, the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Croydon Young Chef Competition.

The charities that will benefit this year have yet to be decided, however.

Chairman of fundraising for the event, Adrian Curtis said: "Our main aim is to support local charities through this event and we'd love to raise a few thousand pounds."

The display takes place on Saturday on Sanderstead Recreation Ground, off Limpsfield Road, and gates open at 5.30pm, before the fireworks start at 7pm.

Entry tickets are £4.50 in advance from Sanderstead and Selsdon newsagents or £5 on the gate.

A dazzling display is also expected to take place at Royal Russell School, in Coombe Lane, on November 9 from 6.15pm.

All money raised goes to Carshalton charity The Diamond Centre –which provides therapeutic riding for the disabled.

Tickets are £5 on the night or £4 in advance by calling Royal Russell School on 020 8657 4433.
