Coulsdon teen stabbed on footbridge by gang of youths

A Coulsdon teenager was stabbed by a gang of youths as he made his way home along a footbridge.

The 19-year-old was walking along the bridge between Woodman Road and Woodmansterne Road, Coulsdon, at 12.30am on Sunday, June 28.

A group of young males was said to have approached him from behind.

He was struck on the back by an unknown man in the group, but continued home, where he discovered a small puncture wound.

The victim was taken to a South London hospital by London Ambulance Service, where he received treatment.

The injury received is not life threatening. The man has now been released from hospital.

PC Vicky Courtnell said:

"This is a seemingly random attack on a young man. I am appealing for anyone that may have been in the area to come forward with information as to what happened.

This kind of violence will not be tolerated and I am keen to hear from any witnesses to help progress this case and bring those responsible to justice."

The attack happened accident the day before the bridge had to be demolished after it was struck by an engineering vehicle.

Train services between Woodmansterne and Purley were cancelled all day Monday as a result of the accident.
