Croydon Nights: Sunday Sessions

Waking up to a hangover is never good. In fact I think I could say without exception, it is categorically bad. But it is always made all that little bit worse if accompanied by notions of having to go to work

We've all been there; alarm ringing, head pounding, snooze deactivated… It's not a nice place. But one thing I have become increasingly aware of is that hangovers seem to be of varying degrees depending on the day of the week! Take a Friday for example. A Friday isn't too bad. You are just at the tail end of the week and plenty of solace can be taken in the knowledge that the weekend is just around the corner.

Wake up on a Monday on the other-hand, and the hangover isn't quite so forgiving. Unfortunately for me, I was on the receiving end of this very sorry situation just a few weeks ago.

It all started with such good intentions; a lunch with some old university friends had been planned for quite some time. It had been ages since we had all got together properly and a good catch up was definitely in order.

Sure, back in our heyday we had been known to spend days and evenings in pubs putting the world to rights. But now it was different. We were older. More mature. Yes, I was convinced that the meet would be sensible and sober.

Unfortunately this was not to be. When I arrived the table was already lined with all manner of alcoholic beverages. It wasn't looking good. Before long, the afternoon had turned to evening, much drink had been consumed and we somehow found ourselves in a club. Ah, it was just like the old days…

Except the next day it wasn't. It was Monday, it was 6am and I had to go to work. Not exactly the perfect antidote to the night before and coincidentally, nor was the week that followed. In fact I don't think I regained a normal functioning body for quite some time after…

Since then I have been attempting to regain some normality in my Sunday routine and have been sticking to what I know best; a lie in, a Sunday newspaper and hours upon hours of Come Dine With Me back to back… all far better preparation for Monday mornings I'm sure!
