Robbers appear to have failed in an attempt to steal two cashpoints from the Sainsbury's supermarket on Croydon's Purley Way.
A large hole is in the side of the wall of the supermarket but the cashpoints remain in place.
It is thought a digger was used in the robbery attempt.
It is understood that the ram raid took place at around 3am this morning (Wednesday).
The store remains open but police tape is cordoning off the affected area with concrete on the floor.
