A web group calling for a cinema in Upper Norwood continues to grow.

Over 1,100 members have joined the group called "Cinema for Crystal Palace!!" on the social networking site Facebook.

It follows an ongoing campaign to stop a church moving into the former Gala Bingo hall in Church Road.

Kingsway International Christian Church purchased the freehold on the site last month, but still needs planning permission from Bromley Council to change the use of the building.

City Screen, which shows independent, art-house and foreign-language films, has expressed an interest in the building.

And campaigners remain hopeful a new cinema could still come there.

As well as the online petition, 750 people have put their signatures to a paper petition.
