Djilali desperate to put Elland Road nightmare to bed

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 11:00

Teenager Kieran Djilali is confident he will put the misery of his first Eagles start behind him to establish himself in Neil Warnock's plans.

The 17-year-old, who signed a two-year deal - his first professional contract - earlier this month, started the embarrassing 4-0 Carling Cup second round defeat to Leeds United on Tuesday night.

However, the Eagles academy graduate, who was the only real bright spot for Palace on a woeful night, says he is ready to banish the memory of the Elland Road demolition in a bid to add to his three first-team appearances.

"It just didn't happen for us really - there's nothing else I can see.

"Obviously you don't want your first start to end in a 4-0 drubbing - but I will bounce back from this.

"I'm still young, I've still got a lot of time ahead of me.

"I enjoyed starting the game - but when you go two, three, four nil down then obviously that's not very nice.

"It's a huge learning curve for me to play at places like Elland Road and Selhurst Park - and it's important not to let the nerves get on top of you.

"I thought I did alright - but there's always moments in games when you think 'oh I should have done this'."
