  • How about a day out with plenty of great food, in an event designed to help Croydon recovery after the riots? The South Croydon Food Festival will be held on Sunday. South End will be transformed, with cooking demonstrations, live entertainment and plenty of food. The road will be closed from Spice's Yard to Aberdeen Road from 8am to 6pm.

  • Ever thought about keeping bees? The group Croydon Beekeepers are holding a taster day on Saturday at their apiary on Hartley Down.   • Young gardeners in Shirley are being given a helping hand by a business. Shirley Garden Centre, in Wickham Road, is offering free cress seeds from Saturday to Thursday next week as part of its spring gardening celebration event. Youngsters who complete an activity sheet can collect a free packet, along with tips on how to make the seeds grow. The event coincides with the Royal Horticultural Society's National Gardening Week, which starts on Monday.

  • Tonight (Thursday) you could take part in a classical Arabic belly dancing class. The event is being held over the Croydon border in Parklangley Club on Wickham Way in Beckenham from 7-8pm. The cost is £8 per class, or £4 for children under 16.
  • If dancing tempts you then you could try Scottish country dancing, with a class for beginners at St Andrew's Church on Woodcote Grove Road in Coulsdon at 8.15pm tomorrow night (Friday).
  • Poets Anonymous are meeting for their Saturday workshop at the United Reformed Church on Addiscombe Grove from 2.30-4pm on Saturday. Bring your poetry to read and share. The cost is £2, and for more information call 07712 180437.
  • Addington Court Golf Centre on Featherbed Lane is running events and offers from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday. There will be free coaching for adults and free taster sessions for young people, and a 'beat the pro' competition. Places must be booked in advance by calling 020 8657 0281.
