But actress Marilyn Cutts admits the group 'passed her by'.
Now, ironically, the former Croydon High School pupil is playing a lead role in the West End musical Never Forget - based on the songs of Take That.
The 57-year-old plays the role of 'Babs' - the mum of a character called Ash Sherwood who is an aspiring singer-songwriter with dreams of making it big.
Marilyn, who was raised in Westfield Avenue, Sanderstead, said: "I stopped listening to pop music after Jimi Hendrix died.
"Take That's music completely passed me by until I heard it in the musical. But they are remarkable songs."
"Music was always important to me, but then so was acting. It was only as my career progressed that the two merged together."
Since graduating from Manchester University with a degree in English and a post-graduate diploma in drama, Marilyn's career has gone from strength to strength.
She has appeared in a number of productions including Sweeney Todd, Copacabana and Show Boat.
And her singing voice has appeared on many original cast albums.
But she is loving her latest job in the West End and it's a long way from her first musical at Derby Playhouse.
Marilyn, who originally wanted a career in medicine, added: "I'm very proud to be part of the show.
"The songs are put together in a way they make sense and it moves the story forward."
