Emma hopes to wrap up sweet success

Friday, August 15, 2008, 09:09

Chocoholic Emma Bartlett has quit her high pressured job as a magazine editor to sell personalised chocolate bars.

The 34-year-old, of Woodside Green, Woodside, worked for publisher IPC Media, at Leon House, on Croydon High Street, but quit last month.

Her new job sees her creating wrappers for chocolate bars with whatever message or design on the front the buyer wants.

Emma, who lives with her partner Sheradon Dublin, 31, said: "After a while I realised I'm more of a creative type and when I became editor it was very much business management stuff.

"It was time for a change. I have just got engaged and I want to settle down and have children.

"My job was long hours and when I have kids I want to be a stay-at-home mum so wanted to develop something I could run from home."

Emma bought the software to run the business for £1,500 from a company called N5 Ltd.

She explained: "They sell it to people who want to set up a chocolate wrapper business.

"Once you buy the software that's it. I also order the chocolate from them."

Emma has been enjoying tucking into the product to ensure it tastes just right. She said: "It's lovely. People say it reminds them of advent calendar chocolate and they like that because it reminds them of Christmas.

"I did an order for a children's birthday party recently. One side [of the wrapper] was a clown and there was a message on the back.

"I did some for a friend's hen night as well.

"People can also have photos on the wrappers."

Emma believes customers will love the novelty value of the bars.

She said: "It's a showing off thing for people to have something personalised for all their guests.

"You find a lot of people want to buy them for a person whose birthday it is.

"The concept I'm trying to promote is to use them instead of birthday cards or use them as party invites.

"I send them out instead of business cards now and it's not something people are likely to overlook."
