The rock legend - speaking at the Classic Rock Awards nominations at London's Borderline bar - claimed all the best bands started out playing in small bars or even their own garages and that was good for their music.
Alice said: "I think rock 'n' roll, according to what I saw in those new bands, has gone back to basics - good. There needs to be a next Guns N' Roses. Guns N' Roses were a great bar band, Aerosmith was a bar band, Alice Cooper was a bar band, you know, Ozzy Osbourne, we all started in bars like this, places like this and I think when I see bands like that it's encouraging to me."
The 60-year-old also claimed today's reality TV talent shows only produced mediocre bands.
He said: "I don't think that the shows like American Idol are ever really looking for bands like we saw today, you know like the Stone Gods, that's not the kind of band they're looking for.
"They're looking much more for mediocre kind of middle of the road Vegas act you know, where as I'd be looking for that. There should be a show that has nothing but garage bands and see who is the best garage band around. I would watch that but I couldn't care less about the next crooner."
