No gongs for Britney, predict pundits

The former Princess of Pop, who will play some part in the ceremony but will not be performing, is nominated for Video Of The Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for Piece Of Me - but music writers across the pond don't think she'll actually win a trophy.
Entertainment Weekly's Margeaux Watson says: "I don't think she'll win. The nominations are like a symbolic gesture to show that MTV are rooting for her, following her troubled performance at the ceremony last year. They're saying that she's come full circle.
"To nominate her for a song like Piece Of Me is meaningful - the lyrics are honest and are about what caused her breakdown - so it's a rewarding and redeeming gesture."
Peter Gaston from music magazine Spin agrees.
"Britney's one of the people you'd expect to be involved in the VMAs this year. I think she's the main reason why people watch the show," he says.
And while the singer has denied that she's performing through her manager Larry Rudolph, there is speculation that she may pull off a surprise.
"There has to be a reason why Britney is in the promos with Russell Brand - she wouldn't be there for no reason," explains Margeaux.
