MORE than 130 people turned out at the Whitgift Centre to try to save desperately ill Croydon girl Imogin Appiah.

The 133 volunteers were added to the bone marrow register after hearing about the six-year-old's plight.

Young leukaemia sufferer Imogin urgently needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.

A two-day registration drive opposite Allders was hosted by the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) on Thursday May 28 and Friday May 29.

Beverley De-Gale, from the ACLT, said: "It was a really positive response.

"Some people went away and brought other people back once they'd seen the presentation.

"I'd say about 90 per cent of the people there knew about Imogin's situation.

"Sheila – Imogin's mum – was delighted."

Imogin, from Aurelia Road, was due to start another round of chemotherapy this week.

She will not make a full recovery until a bone marrow match is found for her and a transplant carried out.

Another registration drive is being held in the Whitgift Centre on Saturday June 27 between noon and 5pm.
