The Croydon couple helping people cope with their debts

James McGilvray and his wife Miriam have been running a bankruptcy support service.
But with more people facing debt problems they decided to look at ways of helping them deal with their problems online.
The result is iMoneyManager , a programme which can be downloaded onto personal computers.
The programme asks a number of simple questions covering income and outgoings, assets and any debts.
At the end the programme gives a personal financial healthcheck putting people into bands ranging from a danger warning at the worst end of the scale to being debt free at best.
In addition to the healthcheck, the programme also uses the information supplied to produce a package which will build up an overall financial statement to help people regain control of their debts.
Mr McGilvray said: "One of the problems facing people is that they don't assess their financial situation soon enough and take action to remedy it quickly enough.
"Often it is only once they have got into serious debt that they pick up the phone to contact the Citizens Advice Bureau or debt help advisers.
"The object of iMoneyManager is to get them to assess their situation at an early stage and because all the work is done in your own home there is no need to reveal any personal details to anyone."
Mr McGilvray and his wife decided to offer the package for free because, as consultants, they had come across many people who could not afford fees or needed simple advice.
He said: "For a long time we have wanted to give something away that will enable people to take control of their situation using our expertise.
"We believe if it is used correctly it will truly help people take control of difficult situations before it becomes too late."
While the couple will not make money out of iMoneyManager, they are intending to follow up the introduction of the programme with a series of home study courses on financial issues which they will sell to clients.
