Update: Man rushed to hospital after South Norwood crash

Thursday, August 14, 2008, 16:27

A man has been taken to hospital following a crash on a quiet residential road in South Norwood.

The man, believed to be in his late 40s, was conscious as firefighters strapped him to a board and levered him out on Thursday.

Firefighters cut him out of his silver car near Selhurst Park football stadium, slicing off the roof and sides.

There were three engines at the scene in Park Road, at the junction of Sangley Road.

An eyewitness said: "I was coming home from work and saw there was something going on.

"I came to have a look, it's human nature I guess, and the man has been laughing and joking with the paramedics.

"He seems okay."

The other woman driver escaped serious injury, but her 4x4 had to be wrenched open by firemen.

A fire rescue unit was sent from Croydon at around 3.50pm with specialist equipment for road traffic accidents.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said one man was taken to Mayday Hospital with chest injuries.
