Never-ending roadworks bad for Thornton Heath business

Anthony Marcus, owner of Simply Fresh florists on High Street, Thornton Heath, says the state of the walkway outside his premises has now become so bad that customers are being put off from going in.
On Monday, August 4, a burst water main split open in the street and leaked into the gas main between the Garden Centre and the swimming pool.
Mr Marcus, who has been in business three years, says many people are now choosing to buy their flowers from other nearby shops.
He said: "The works are covering my entire entrance. I have only just got a license to put my flowers out in the street and now I can't.
"I have got competition from Tesco and now a lot of people are not coming here.
"people start at the top of the street and see the roadworks coming down and they're more tempted to walk on the other side of the road and pass me by."
Mr Marcus says he was informed by contractors Morrisons Utility Services the work would be finished by Monday, September 1.
They were originally scheduled to finish on August 7.
The contractor declined to comment when contacted by the Advertiser.
Morrisons Utility Services were also blamed by both Croydon Council for botched works which led to the evacuation of 30 homes in South Norwood earlier this month.
