Hi-tech crimefighting puts robber behind bars

Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 17:34

A brazen teenage robber has been jailed for six years for raiding a convenience store after being caught with state-of-the-art forensic technology.

Daniel Akinfenwa, 19, vaulted over the counter of Bolton Store in Coulsdon Road, Caterham on July 18 last year and stole more than £2,000.

Detectives from Reigate CID used facial mapping to identify Akinfenwa as well as matching a shoe print he left at the scene in Caterham to a pair of training shoes found in his house.

Investigating officer Det Con Colin Snell said: “Akinfenwa is a dangerous man who planned and executed three robberies on the same day.

“I hope his lengthy sentence reassures the community, and sends a clear message that in serious cases such as this Surrey Police will always prosecute offenders.”

Last Friday, Akinfenwa, of Hermitage Road, Upper Norwood, pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court.

He also admitted carrying out two other robberies on the same day at Threshers off-licence in Plough Lane, Wallington, and Threshers in Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon, which were taken into consideration.
