Eight-wicket Latty sees Railway sneak in
Division Four
Southern Railway & Kenley 157 SinjunGrammarians 154
Eric Latty's eight-wicket haul saw Southern Railway scrape home by three runs against SinjunGrammarians.
Asked to bat first, Railways struggled to master the bowling of Jarred Sewell, who finished with impressive figures of 5-38 as the home side were dismissed for 154 in the 39th over. David Lewis top scored for Railways with 38 with Benjamin Moncrieffe hitting 31.
At 131-3 in reply, the visitors looked set for a comfortable victory until Latty induced panic in the Sinjun ranks.
The crucial breakthrough came when Latty trapped visiting skipper Simon Wild leg-before for 52 and then proceeded to smash through the middle and lower-order to finish with superb figures of 8-59 as SinjunGrammarians were skittled out for 154.
His delighted skipper Ray Tudor said: "The boys did well. They stuck with it after we were bowled out for a fairly low total. But they kept on believing and they were deservedly rewarded.
"We've done quite well with the bat at home this season, but this time it was the bowlers who stepped up. We dropped a few chances, but thankfully we took some as well.
"The victory showed that we are maturing as a group – all the youngsters are maturing. It was very tense out there but the boys remained focused.
"It's great for me as captain to see the lads come on. The young boys have never been in that kind of scenario before, but they showed plenty of guts and a lot of heart to come through that with a win.
"I told the lads after the game that they were just part of an amazing win. I'm very proud of them.
"If we can show that sort of resilience throughout the rest of the season then we will be more than okay.
"That's three wins on the bounce for us now and we need to continue that momentum.
"I've got the youngsters opening the bowling and batting in key positions for me and they are not letting me down."
